Can't wait to dig into this!
I do love dark.
I do love magic.
And, Brenna Yovanoff always delivers!
Here's the blurb...
Clementine DeVore spent ten years trapped in a cellar, pinned down by willow roots, silenced and forgotten.

Now she’s out and determined to uncover who put her in that cellar and why.

When Clementine was a child, dangerous and inexplicable things started happening in New South Bend. The townsfolk blamed the fiendish people out in the Willows and burned their homes to the ground. But magic kept Clementine alive, walled up in the cellar for ten years, until a boy named Fisher sets her free. Back in the world, Clementine sets out to discover what happened all those years ago. But the truth gets muddled in her dangerous attraction to Fisher, the politics of New South Bend, and the Hollow, a fickle and terrifying place that seems increasingly temperamental ever since Clementine reemerged.

V'Lu Jitterbug!

Slow and steady wins the race?
I'm only half way through, but I'm reading three at the same time and writing one, so I guess I have my excuse. But let me just say, V'Lu and Madame Devalier have the drama and style of New Orleans with exclamations of, "Ooh-la-la," and "Fetch me some more, Cher."
And baby, you call me "Cher" and I'll fetch you anything you want.
You can feel the sweaty headiness in the air, smell the brew of jasmine
as they set about their task, the stink of Pan, and the sensual energy of the
lurking Bingo Pajama.
Alobar, in his quest to show death up, has decided instead that it is far better to LIVE,
to have PASSION, to enjoy PASSION. He is raw sexual man, a fallen king I believe in his late sixties that has decided to bow down to no one or nothing, not even the ravages of time.
He lives as he wants to live with the same passion of youth, with the same wants as youth, but with the benefit of an advanced mind.
And let me just say, HOT DAMN MY KIND OF MAN!!! ; )

Then there is LeFever and his whale mask.
"There are people in this world who can wear whale masks and people who cannot, and the wise know to which group they belong."
That says it all.

To David who lent me this book, I am savoring it slowly,
and will post back soon, but this book is becoming very well travelled!
Perhaps it needs New Orleans before its return?

Nova & The Walls Around Us!

Okay, you know I will always support Nova's work and THE WALLS AROUND US
is her latest.
The first seven chapters were released on Amazon for free, a nice little tease that
worked well enough to get me out this week to get a copy.
But more than that, Nova is Nova and her work will always resonate with me.
If you haven't read her stuff, get onto it.
Imaginary Girls was one of my all time favorites, rich in atmosphere and
whilst WALLS AROUND US is a different kind of texture,
it is the hauntingly rich experience that is Nova!
Be brave in your work, be true to yourself-
write what you need and want to write.

In my recent work, there is reference to the Wizard of Oz, which led me to
'DOROTHY MUST DIE,' I must admit a little late in the game.
I read the first few pages  - strong characters, strong writing, good flow, and
GREAT premise!
This is on my next "to read," but damn that stack just keeps getting higher and the hours in the day sure don't seem like enough.
Why do we need sleep?
I hate sleeping! It is such an intrusion on what I want and need to get done!
Pick up 'DOROTHY MUST DIE' and perhaps this will keep us up and keep us reading!
Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)
I didn't ask for any of this.
I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado - taking you with it - you have no choice but to go along, you know?Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still a yellow brick road - but even that's crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm - and I'm the other girl from Kansas.

No wonder there's two more.

Nightbird Hoffman Magic!

Nightbird is a Middle Grade piece of work, but it's everyone's middle grade!
No doubt l'll be picking it up. Why?
Because I love, love, love Hoffman. Why?
Because she believes in magic!
I believe in magic!
I believe we all have magic!
I believe we all want magic!
I believe that all people are inherently good and need magic!
It's in all our lives.
We only have to see and believe it, and believe too in all and every possibility!
And so in thanks to Hoffman's new release!
This is what Lois Lowry had to say....
“I love the way Alice Hoffman creates the most ordinary people and then turns their lives magical. . . . [Nightbird] is like reentering a wonderful dream that you vaguely remember.” —Lois Lowry, two-time Newbery Medal–winning author of The Giver
